世界卫生组织的最新估计显示，在2020年1月1日至2021年12月31日期间，与新冠大流行直接或间接相关的全部死亡人数约为1490万（范围为1330万至1660万）。世卫组织将这一数据称为“超额死亡率”。死亡率：男性57%，女性43%，老年人更高；中等收入国家占超额死亡人数81%，高收入和低收入国家各占15%和4%。
